The 6th of July 2006...What does it mean for you?

Do you ever think about the date? As more than simply a way of keeping track of the year I mean. If you think about it simply everyday amazing, wonderful, terrible and sad things happen all over the world. Each day people are born, people die, people get married, people make discoveries, make enormous leaps in their personal walks through life.
This thought really hit me today whilst re-reading Burbages blog entitled "Poem Time" the poems title is "Composed Upon Westminster Bridge September 3rd 1802". The title is the date it was written, the date it came into existence. I thought that was amazing. That poem means so much to so many people but it all started on that day on Westminster Bridge. A day that had 24hrs. A day that, to Wordsworth, was probably a day full of much more exciting events for him than simply that poem. He probably didn't think "Oh that poem will be very famous in years to come. What a days work!" he could have found his day full of more simple things such as "Oh! Steak for tea my favorite!" What I'm trying to say very inarticulately is that to Wordsworth the 3rd of September was probably not marked as a very significant day in his mind but to us it signifies that poem!

OK, think of a day, 24hrs, approximatly a third of which we spend asleep. A day doesn't last long. Its a fleeting once in a life-time experiance. We may have many September the 3rd's in our life but we will only have one September 3rd 1802 (if your Wordsworth). Each September 3rd, each day is completely different. To each person everyday brings new things. Today millions of people have died, changing forever the lives of those who knew them. Today millions will have been born, changing forever the lives of those parents of people it will know.
When thinking about tomorrow, the 7th of July 2006, it was exactly a year ago that the bombs in London occured. The 7th of July 2005 changed the lives of many thousands of people. That day was terrible and very sad to see, but it will never happen again, not in the same way anyway.
This has made me realise all over again that each day is worth living to the fullest for its own reasons. Each day brings new joys, tragedies and challenges in all shapes and sizes. well do you know what I think?....BRING IT ON!!!

Ffion, this is your best post ever. Don't especially know why but it's just brilliantly written and is at an angle I've never really thought of before.

6th July 2006 to me was my one and only day off work all summer, so actually quite a special day. What was it to you?

Hey ffi, I have to agree with Kat, this is the best post I've ever read! I have to be honest and say that the 6th of July didn't mean a lot to me before reading your blog but now I see it in a completely different light. It makes me feel like I wasted yesterday and didn't appreciate it but that's my own reaction to your words and I know wasn't your intention but don't you see, feelings like that just spur you on to appreciate the next day so much more! I do go through stages where I'm just so thankful to God for another day of life, another day God has held back His judgement and that just makes me aware of how much I really am doing for God's glory and keeps me focused on God which thanks to you ffi I'm reminded of!

wow! Ok i wrote that blog in under five minutes cos I just randomly thought of the fact that a date only happens once...ever! I'm glad you guys liked it tho! I'm not sure what yesterday meant for me actually - I was feeling quite down for no real reason, but I think what will stick in my head most about it was that I spent the whole day just wandering the parks of bath just chatting to my friend Ben, which I haven't done in so long - it was amazing to see how hes changed and just to catch up like old times meant alot....yeah yesterday was a pretty cool day really!

That's a very interesting idea. One person's mundande boring day is another's birth, death, heartbreak, joy or some unforgettable event. What may be unremarkable to us may be a landmark for someone else. Makes you think, though, doesn't it? Don't let the days slip past you. Yeah. I like it.
